3 Common Air Conditioning Repairs for Summer
During a hot summer in Southern California, you want to avoid calling for repairs for your air conditioner if at all possible. A malfunctioning AC can mean hours of discomfort while you wait for repair technicians to reach you. It can also mean elevated cooling bills in the weeks before you even realize you need to have the repair done.
However, sometimes there is no way to avoid a repair call for an air conditioner. Below are three of the more common repairs that AC technicians often perform over the summer.
If you need any of these repairs taken care of, call on JW Heating & Air. We serve Los Angeles, CA with quality air conditioning repair services.
1. Sealing refrigerant leaks/recharging refrigerant
Refrigerant can begin to escape from an AC if pitted corrosion affects the copper lines. Repairing this problem involves three stages:
- Locating the leaks, which requires specialized equipment.
- Sealing the leaks.
- Recharging the refrigerant to its manufacture-set level.
2. Fixing motors
The motors in both in indoor and outdoor cabinet of an air conditioner undergo a large amount of stress each summer. If the motors become dirty or lose lubrication, they will rapidly wear down and can burn out, leading to the fans or the compressor stopping. Technicians can clean and lubricate the motors, and in some cases will need to replace them entirely.
3. Cleaning the condensate drain
The drain that removes the moisture that drips from the evaporator coil can become clogged with debris and algal growth. If this occurs, it will lead to water overflowing from the condensate pan and possibly causing damage to your home. Technicians will detach the drain from the pan and clean it out, then re-attach it.
It’s important that you never ignore signs that your air conditioner is suffering from a malfunction. Call for repairs right away from a professional, dependable company—or else you may end up with a larger, more expensive repair or even a completely broken air conditioner.
