If your air conditioner is acting erratically, such as not producing cold air, making loud noises, or running constantly with little effect, then you will likely need a repair. While many homeowners are afraid that these repairs may be terribly expensive, the good news is that many repairs are relatively simple and can be performed with just a few hours of labor.
Call our Los Angeles air conditioning services to schedule a service today if your system is experiencing any of these three problems.
1. Refrigerant Leaks
To put it very simply, your air conditioner runs by taking heat from inside your home and moving it outside using a fluid called refrigerant. Your system is designed to run with an exact amount of refrigerant fluid running through it, so a leak will slowly reduce its ability to produce cold air by moving heat outside. A technician will inspect your system, repair the leak, and then recharge your system with the proper amount of fluid; it is not advised that you make this repair yourself.
2. Lack of Drainage
Another type of air conditioner fluid is condensation that forms on the cooling coil. This condensation often has to drain off into a reservoir that then drains out of your home. If you’re seeing a lot of water around the base of your air conditioning system, particularly during humid weather, this may be due to a drainage problem. Check your drain to make sure it hasn’t been clogged by dust or debris.
3. Broken Bearings
Bearings allow the moving parts in your air conditioner to rotate freely with as little friction and resistance as possible. However, like other parts, they wear out. When they do, you will likely hear a loud screeching noise coming from your outside unit. You may want to ignore this and just deal with it, but it’s important that you don’t, as this extra friction can make other parts of your system more prone to breaking as well. It’s much easier to repair a bearing than it is to have to replace the entire motor.
