In Santa Monica, heating repair is largely a winter concern. California weather is fairly mild but here on the coast, things can get pretty cool, even in the daytime. A reliable furnace is the ideal way to keep your home cozy and comfortable, even when the ocean mist comes creeping in. When things go wrong, you need to spot the problem quickly and call in a repair service before it unduly affects comfort levels in your home. Here’s a brief list of what can go wrong with your furnace, as well as ways to spot the issue.
- Clogged burners. Dirt and dust build-up can clog the tips of your burners, forcing them to work harder to do their job. That can translate to reduced heat levels and a furnace that wastes undue energy. Eventually, the dirt will clog the burners entirely, preventing the furnace from working at all. You’ll notice this with a reduce amount of heat coming from the vents and/or higher monthly energy bills. A technician can clean the burner heads and restore the issue.
- Broken fan. If a fan suffers problem, it won’t blow air in, leading to reduced air flow and a slower heating time. The fan motor can suffer a burnout, the fan belt can break, the fan itself can bend or become misaligned and/or an electrical disruption can cut off power to the fan completely.
- Igniter/thermocouple. The igniter lights the gas that fuels the burners while the thermocouple controls the flow of gas and cuts it off if there’s a problem. That means that a faulty igniter or broken thermocouple will essentially keep the system shut down, preventing it from running at all.
